The Health and Safety Framework at Fletcher Easysteel

The Smartsite HS & E Programme was developed to assist Fletcher Steel Group Business Units reduce the likelihood of serious harm to both personnel and the environment. Smartsite is owned by each of the Fletcher Steel Business Units. Fletcher Easysteel as part of this group facilitates this system and operates it throughout its seventeen sites in New Zealand.

There are five levels in the Smartsite program and the aim within Easysteel is to get all branches to at least level 3.
This is equal to and in some areas, more than the tertiary level within the ACC partnership program.

The minimal performance achievement for all sites audited must meet all level one requirements, as this will meet the legal requirements of the Employment Act, HSNO Act, ACC Act, Building Codes and other relevant legislation.

The Smartsite HS&E program is audited by a fully qualified auditor and conducted throughout the Easysteel Branches twice a year. Site Managers, team leaders and employees are encouraged to participate throughout the assessment program. This movement towards self assessment has resulted in our upskilling internally for greater ownership and compliance to JASNZ 4801/04 as a minimum standard

Our culture of Safety - “because we want to, not because we have to” drives us to achieve our goals. We are relentless in our focus on achieving zero harm for all our work mates, colleagues, customers and suppliers – ensuring that ouractions or inactions never put a person’s health or safety at risk.
